I’ve seen this little guy around a couple of times, but lately I’ve been seeing it more and more lately. Nice to see it on my way to work!

1a I think. He has an ‘88 trunk lid and spoiler but 1a bumper and vent.

It’s probably an 86. They had the early tail lights, but had the boxy third brake light after they became mandatory that year. All of the spoiler-equipped cars had the boxy brake light until 89 when they had a cleaner LED strip as part of the wing, getting rid of the box.

Cool! Thanks for the update! I knew the LED was ‘89 only, but thought the spoiler light was an ‘88 only design with the previous ones mounted on the roll hoop. In other news, I know what I need to do to improve engine bay cooling and improve aero ;)

Haha, a bit... Still gave me ideas though. I’ve been working on solutions to pull more air out of the engine bay and was thinking that maybe pulling the lid entirely and replacing it will a louver that stretches past it would work.

Well it already has a tumble effect right over the lid creating low pressure, like a pickup truck bed. Pulls air right up out of the engine bay. You could always throw a fan under the vents to assist, but it works pretty well as is. If you care doesn’t have the clear TOYOTA visor, that may help a bit, and I think for really high speed stuff (in an AW? HAH!) maybe some Evo-style roof spikes would pull the air down farther too. But realistically the visor and some fans would work fine. The engine bay doesn’t get all that hot on NA MR2's anyway, the vents and natural aero of the car work pretty well.

Eventually there’s going to be a turbo and possible supercharger hiding back there and I do so many short runs with it sitting at temperature with things like autocross that the aero effect which doesn’t hit until about 50 mph is probably getting lost. I know that when I pop the lid on my AW, the blast of air seems way hotter than when I open the hood on an front engined car. Also Florida.
